- WHY A NAUGSAW '93?
- For the last seven years, Apple II and Macintosh user group leaders have
- gathered annually, at National Apple User Group Conferences. These gatherings,
- have provided a meeting ground for diverse groups to discuss, explore and share
- their experiences, as well as talk to industry leaders and vendors.
-
- The theme this year is “Strengthening User Groups - Meeting User Needs.”
- Sessions will focus on helping user group leaders effectively serve their
- members and communities. For the first time a seminar will be held on
- conducting Member Surveys. We will explore ways to know what your members
- really want.
-
- ATTENDEES CAN LEARN:
- The mechanics of leading groups, motivating volunteers, recruiting members, and
- simple mechanics of day-to-day operation, as well as teach other groups about
- their unique experiences.
-
- The latest in Mac and Apple II hardware and software solutions, system
- software, and ideas.
-
- They can bring together input from their members and influence the industry in
- ways impossible for individual groups to do.
-
- Each year's conference is hosted by different groups, in a different
- location.
-
- USER GROUPS WILL:
- >Discuss how to make their groups more healthy, profitable, and fun. >Learn of
- industry developments their members should know about. >Share their groups'
- unique experiences so others may benefit from
- them.
- >Explore the possibilities for collaborative work to help each other.
-
- SPECIFIC CONTENT:
- NAUGSAW '93 will need a great deal of assistance from the user group community
- to succeed. In particular, it needs:
-
- > Volunteers: Both local people and helpers all over the world, to spread the
- word and help organize the event. You can do this by:
- - spreading the word by reposting this message on other user group forums
- - If you know other user groups that aren't online, please let them know to
-
- > Sponsors: Interested vendors should write to the above address to obtain
- information about sponsorship opportunities, including program book,
- advertising, exhibiting, and meal sponsorships, etc.
-
- User group leaders are the keys to a wide market spectrum. These people are
- the ones advising others what to buy in business, education, and the
- community. Make sure they know what your company and your products are all
- about.
-
- > Ideas. What should user groups be doing? How should they do it? For
- interested parties unable to attend, the program book and other publications
- will include papers submitted prior to the conference. The papers deadline is
- March 1, 1993.
-
- NAUGSAW 93, will feature some really exciting discussions and panels. It will
- include workshops with panels and presentations. Every attendee will be
- involved in the program - not just listening, but sharing your concerns,
- opinions, and experiences.
-
- The goal is not just professional but social - to get to know other user groups
- better, and build the contacts that you can be tapped year-round. We can build
- inter-group relationships, exchanges, and so forth.
-
- You can learn from the many other communities out there that resemble your
- group in many, many ways - but have some insight to share.
-
- We want the conference to be useful to community groups, in-house groups, and
- professional groups, even though the logistical needs of these types of
- organizations differ.
-
- We have invited PC groups to the conference as well. So much about user groups
- really isn't connected to what kind of computer you use - it's the experience
- of running a group that we have in common. We can gain some useful insights
- into our own community by bringing in "other platforms" to share their
- experiences.
-
- We encourage more than one representative per group to attend, to get the most
- from the conference's multiple simultaneous sessions.
-
- ACCOMODATIONS:
- Hotel guest rooms have a special rate through the Radisson-on-the Lake which is
- adjacent to the conference site. Contact the Radisson-on-the-Lake at
